Getting Things in Order
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. (Col 3:2)
My father was dying of cancer. But it was the best time I ever had with him. He stopped working to achieve things in this world and did the one thing that he regretted not doing- he spent time with his family. You may think it's a shame that he waited until he was dying- it is. We all stumble in many ways. (James 3:2)
When his heart beat strong and steady he was too busy for me to know him. But he woke up! When his heart was weak and irregular, then the heart of his soul woke up and my dad shared joy in just sitting with me. When he was as good as dead, then the life of the Lord comforted any who sat with him.
What would be your priorities, and how would you be toward those around you if you really saw your life was at it's end? Would you and I set our minds on things above with Christ and share His love with those around us here on earth? Christian, I think we would.
Why does God's word say, 'You have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.' (Col 3:3)? Should we wait to get things in order? May the Holy Spirit wake you and me up at our heart level. Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, You are our life. Help us to realize that our life as it was is truly over. Grant us grace and open our eyes to get things in order- to enter into Your rest and share Your love with those who, like us, have struggled to get a life in this world that is passing away.
Lord, these things are beyond our understanding, but they are not beyond us. When You died, we all died, and when You were raised from the dead, our life was and is hidden in You. Wake us up to our death that we would set our minds on our life in Your love. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (Rom 6:4)
We have God's Word on it.
